Fuel prices change on Wednesday 4 November: what is reported so far

Media report a temporary fuel-levy cut of R1.50/l on petrol and R3.00/l on diesel. The official DMPR statement has not been published yet.

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources adjusts fuel prices on the first Wednesday of every month, so the next change takes effect on Wednesday 4 November 2026.

IOL reported on 2 November that a temporary General Fuel Levy cut of R1.50 per litre on petrol and R3.00 per litre on diesel will apply from 4 November to 1 December, with a smaller cut of R1.00 and R1.50 reported for 2 December to 5 January 2027. We treat both as “reported” until the DMPR media statement confirms them.

Working against that relief is the market. The Central Energy Fund’s daily slate for 29 October shows an average under-recovery for the month of about 100.6 cents a litre on 95 petrol and 141.8 cents on 50 ppm diesel, which on its own points to an increase.

Putting the two together, our estimate is a drop of roughly 49 cents a litre on 95 petrol and about R1.58 on 50 ppm diesel. This is an estimate, not an official figure. We send a “Fuel price change confirmed” alert the moment the official statement is out.
